Upgrading Error in PHPBB 3.1.5: database_update.php, http code=503

Postby instuser » Thu Jun 18, 2015 4:31 am

Trying to upgrade by hosted phpbb forum from 3.1.1 to either 3.1.2, 3.1.4 or 3.1.5, i get the following error:

Upgrading: Error: FAILURE [3; /opt/curlssl/bin/curl] http://<MyAddreess>/forum/install/database_update.php [http code=503]

Why could this be happening?

Prior to the upgrade attempt, the form works fine (both user and admin modes).

Greetings,

Sorry for the inconvenience. Please check the HTTP/PHP error log for this domain. There should be an entry corresponding to the error received.

If PHP Selector is available, try using this tool to set the PHP version to "native", then try the task once again.

If there are any questions let us know.

Best regards,
Josh

After running the upgrade process (3.1.1 to 3.1.2 to be safe), i got the following errors:

[Fri Jun 19 10:28:08 2015] [error] [client <MyIP>] File does not exist: <MyWebsiteRoot>/404.shtml
[Fri Jun 19 10:28:08 2015] [error] [client <MyIP>] File does not exist: <MyWebsiteRoot>/favicon.ico
[Fri Jun 19 10:28:07 2015] [error] [client <MyIP>] File does not exist: <MyWebsiteRoot>/404.shtml
[Fri Jun 19 10:28:07 2015] [error] [client <MyIP>] File does not exist: <MyWebsiteRoot>/favicon.ico

First of all, i have installed the forum software quite some time ago, not with Installatron but with another tool my provider was using at that time (don't remember the name).
Second, the location i've installed it to, is <MyWebsiteRoot>/forum. Why is the upgrade process trying to find those files one level up?
Third, it seems that those files do not exist in any folder under <MyWebsiteRoot>/forum.

How should i proceed?

Greetings,

Since this was installed using a different tool we'll need to take a closer look to understand why this is occurring.

Can you open a ticket at https://secure.installatron.com/tickets to provide control panel login information?

Best regards,
Josh

OK, i tried something i thought it would solve the problem. Unfortunately it didn't.

I performed a fresh phpbb installation (same version as the one i had) in another location and transferred all the table contents via MySQLAdmin from one installation to the other. The new installation has the same problem. The forum works just fine but it's actually not upgradeable due to the same error as in my OP.

Before creating a ticket for it, as suggested in your last post, i'd like to provide some more info which i gathered while searching around and trying things. The forum installation is in a subdomain of my main domain. When i login via FTP, the installation's root path is /public_html/<MySubDomainFolder>/forum. As i see in my provider's logs, this is translated to an actual disk folder named /home/<MyAccount>/public_html/<MySubDomainFolder>/forum. I have defined the root folder of my subdomain to be /public_html/<MySubDomainFolder> (no redirection).

I hope this info helps a little. Any new ideas perhaps?

Are there any news on that? Is it something that someone is checking?

As i said in my previous post, i reinstalled phpbb with Installatron and the issue wasn't resolved, so it wasn't caused by an earlier installation tool. Perhaps the issue is caused by the way the domain / subdomain paths are setup by my host or perhaps by an environment variable. Is it something that can be checked with all the info i provide or cpanel login info are required?
