Exclude Backup of Sub-Folder 2 levels deep

Postby jkirker » Thu Aug 28, 2014 10:19 am

Is it possible to exclude a sub-folder two levels deep?

For instance, with a wordpress install, I'd like to exclude a specific folder.

I'd like to include /wp-content/uploads/ but exclude /wp-content/uploads/audio as the audio folder has 15GB of conference audio for one of my clients. Backing this portion up is unnecessary. And the auto-backups on update of these files are un-necessary and hogging resources.

Please let me know your thoughts?

Why not make the file chooser in the edit/config dig deeper into dirs?

Greetings,

At this time there's no ability to exclude sub-directories. I feel this would be a useful feature and I've added it to the list for 9.2.

Thank you,

Great - can't wait until 9.2!!! So that'll be out on Tuesday right? :D

While I'm at it, another thought/suggestion. Feel free to separate this if necessary...

You can currently limit the number of backups - however if backups are made during auto-updates, and they are unattended to - they accumulate and eventually fill up all the space.

How about keeping track in a table somewhere of which backups are manual (or auto's marked to keep), and which are automatic - or use a filename flag or something to differentiate them.

Then you can give us a "max number" of auto-backup files to keep. 0 would be unlimited, or whatever number is chosen.

If the number of existing auto-backups is greater than the chosen number for that site, it'd start pruning them.

Again, just a thought - but it'd be of value to me so I could stop maintaining these for my users who are too lazy to or are running out of space.

Hello,

We're aware that backups created by Automatic Update processes are accumulating and we're working on a solution for version 9.1.5. Essentially, the purpose of backups created by Automatic Update processes is simply to ensure the upgrade worked, not provide a restore point that's good forever - that's what Automatic Backup is for.

Starting with 9.1.5, backups created by any Automatic Update process will automatically expire after a certain number of days (default is 14 days currently). There will be a button on the My Backups tab to "don't expire" any of these backups (if ample quota space is available), and changes have been made throughout the UI to reflect this change.

Let me know if you have any feedback - we'd love to hear it.

Thank you,
Phil

Any ETA's on 9.1.5 and do you have a roadmap to the next major rev?

Hi,

I would like to add a request for this feature also, excluding certain paths from backups would be very useful in cases for some users.

I've just received a reply for a ticket I submitted.

Hello,

This feature is on track for 9.2 which we're currently wrapping up. ETA is about a month. If you have any questions let us know.

Thank you,
Phil
