Wordpress site - Keep getting "Backup failed" message

Postby prodos » Wed Apr 30, 2014 7:11 am

Greetings.

I keep getting the following error message from my INSTALLATRON notifications regarding one of my Wordpress sites (I've XX-ed out the username and password) ....

The backup process for ECONOMICS WORKSHOP located at http://economicsworkshop.org has failed and the details of the failure have been logged.

Technical error:
Error: mysql database connection failed:
host = localhost
database = prodos_wp52
username = prodos_wp52
password = (hidden)
errstr = Could not connect to `localhost` using the username `XXXXXX` and password `XXXXXXXX` (mysql) -- Too many connections

End of report.

Would anyone be able to offer advice on this?

Thanks.

:)

Hello,

Does this issue consistently affect this single install?

The reason I ask is the "Too many connections" error is generated by MySQL and should describe a server-wide issue. These errors usually aren't specific to an installed application or even Installatron.

Thank you,

Good evening Phil,

Thanks for your reply ...

Yes, I think it's just this one site that keeps getting this message.

However, I did try to create a backup yesterday of a PHPLIST site (installed with INSTALLATRON) and it failed also.

I see.

Hmmm .... maybe I need to ask my server provider?

Thanks.

Update: I've opened a support ticket at ServInt to see if they can shed any light on the problem from their end. I'll report back on what they say.

Update ...

Problem fixed.

I asked my server provider about the issue.

The support staff at ServInt explained ...

MySQL max connections are not specific to sites but instead global. If you have 5 sites, using 100 connections, and your max is 105 globally, adding another site will reach your maximum.

This is quite a common problem and I don't consider it to be a deeper server problem.

Would you like for me to increase the max connections in MySQL?

Then later ....

I have doubled your maximum number of mysql connections.

And that's that. 8-)
