644 instead of 666

You need to tell Installatron to stop using suPHP chmod values too. That's the "PHP server type" setting in Administration >> Settings >> Libraries.

If the plugin is complaining about 644 on an suPHP server then it does sound like the plugin is only looking at the value and not testing to see if it's writable. Because 666 on an suPHP server would produce an error when you tried to do something with the file.

Complete, utter and total BULLSEYE mate!

I suspected that it was something along those lines but simply didn't think of Installatron's own admin settings.

At glacial speed, I am getting a sense of how this stuff works but getting to this point, with almost the entire install process automated, is a major milestone for me.
