Joomla extension in domain name

Postby silversurfer » Wed May 27, 2009 1:22 am

I have just downloaded Joomla successfully with Installatron, through my host, however, I do not want the Joomla extension at the end of my domain name. Can you please tell me where or how I can remove this?
And how will it effect any updates to Joomla

For example: http://www.mywebsite.net/joomla to http://www.mywebsite.net

Hi,

When installing an application the Install Location can be modified to remove the "joomla" directory. If no Install Location directory is specified, Installatron will install to the "root" of the domain, e.g. at http://www.mywebsite.net/

Thanks,
Phil.

Thank You for the speedy reply. I have already installed Joomla so what file should I go to to alter it now?

I have previously successfully installed a large number of Joomla downloads without the extension so it caught me by surprise.

Hi,

Many applications don't handle be moved gracefully. We don't recommend moving a live install.

Instead we suggest simply mirroring requests using a .htaccess file. This will make it appear like the install is at http://www.mywebsite.net/ even though it isn't. To set this up, add this code to a .htaccess file in your root directory (your "public_html" or "httpdocs" directory):

Code: Select all

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule (.*) joomla/$1

If assistance is required, your web host should be able to help.

Thanks,
Phil.
