Nginx support one day?

Postby interfaSys » Tue Jan 07, 2014 2:45 pm

I'm just wondering if Nginx is on the roadmap?
Installatron is one of the obstacles when looking at switching to Nginx since quite a few apps would need different config files.

Hello,

Nginx is actually supported by Installatron itself, but of course each app will have its own compatibility status.

Let me know which apps you're having trouble with and I'll check the status on better out-of-the-box compatibility. Feel free to email me directly at pstier@installatron.com.

Thank you,
Phil

Hello Phil,

I didn't know that it was compatible. Maybe a traffic light system could be useful to show compatibility?
I've only looked at popular CMS like Wordpress and Joomla and both require special nginx configs, so does Installatron generate and install them automatically?

EDIT: I've had a quick look at WP and Joomla howtos and it seems those apps don't require anything special, unless multisite is required.
Is there a quick way to find out which Installatron apps use htaccess files?

Cheers,

Hello,

Most apps include a .htaccess file but very few _require_ a .htaccess file. Currently, WordPress specifically is one of the only apps that does require a .htaccess on Linux/FreeBSD -- we're going to fix this for 9.0.7 coming early next week.

We'll also investigate adding the web server type as an automated dependency, similar to how we handle PHP version and extension dependencies. I think this should provide a graceful solution in the long term.

Thanks,
Phil
